Jim has been engaged in real estate investment for many years. He has owned many duplexes and single family homes. After initially self-managing these properties, he has since engaged third-party managers for them and has realized the benefits of professional management and the importance of working closely with the manager to maximize returns and minimize problems. His private investments include interests in over three hundred multifamily units as assisted living, retail properties, well as several assisted living, retail properties.

Jim is an attorney in the private practice of law with special expertise in tax and business law. For over 25 years, Jim has been a partner in a major law firm in Minneapolis. For over two decades he has counseled clients and partners on structuring transactions for maximum tax benefits. A substantial part of his practice involves tax advantaged financing of real estate projects. These projects involve coordinating with investors, banks, government entities, legal experts, appraisers and other business people to ensure the timely closing of complex transactions. Jim recently was the client lead on two transactions involving the acquisition of real estate portfolios of assets in multiple states with aggregate value exceeding $300 million. Jim will bring his experience to bear in analyzing opportunities, coordinating with strategic partners and orchestrating the successful financing and closing of transactions to optimize investor returns.
